Yiying Lu is the artist who designed the infamous "Fail Whale" which has spawned a Fan Site and a Merch Site where you can get Fail Whale on t-shirts, mugs and even onesies.
I actually first noticed Yiying Lu's art on istockphoto, she has very cute whimsical vectors.Originally born in Shanghai (then moved to Sydney), she studied advertising and illustration at Central St Martins College of Art and Design. On her site, she shows her creative application to the college. How could they not take her, it's so smart and very well designed.
