Ant architecture

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Scientists poured 10 tons of cement into a large colony of ants todissect how it was structured.I hate ants due to the great ant invasion of the summer 2008 in my apartment. But I have to admit, this is really dang interesting. Some fun facts about this colony:-They had a system of ventilation, ducts on top of the ground blew out carbon dioxideand brought in fresh air.-They had little pods specifically made to contain garbage.-This structure covers 538 square feet, and goes down into the earth 26 feet-The colony moved 40 tons of soil to build the structure-The size equivalent in human terms is building The Great Wall of China(credit: Kottke)
